Fellows Weekly Schedule

Given the volume of clinical activity, the fellows on the two clinical services attend every surgical case and IVF retrieval. The research fellow has protected time and attends the general departmental conferences as time permits and the divisional and endocrinology (medicine and pediatric) conferences as appropriate. Segments of the fellowship are as contiguous as possible, yet retain flexibility.

The monitoring patients are scheduled to begin at 7:30 AM. The retrievals are scheduled for 10:00 AM, after the end of the monitoring clinic, and the transfers are performed after any retrievals, typically at 11:00 AM.

Women undergoing ovulation induction with human menopausal gonadotropins are also monitored (daily ultrasound scans and estrogens), and the fellow is responsible for all oocyte retrievals, embryo transfers, intrauterine inseminations, and making the daily management decisions for women undergoing hMG/hCG stimulation.

Vaginal ultrasound scanning for early gestations established in our program, are performed up to 10 weeks to rule out ectopic pregnancies and gynecologic disease.

The OR on Mondays is primarily inpatients undergoing laparotomies (myomectomies, conservative resections of severe endometriosis, etc.). The OR on Fridays is at the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) and consists of either ambulatory cases, such as laparoscopies and hysteroscopies (diagnostic and operative), or tubal reanastomoses and other laparotomies requiring only overnight stays (within the ASC).
