Research Rotation
Protected research time, free of any clinical responsibilities, is mandatory for the development of the requisite skills necessary to be an independent investigator. During the 12 months on the Research Rotation, the fellow has true protected time that is insured by not having malpractice insurance. This affords an opportunity to work full-time in one of the divisional research laboratories under the direction of an established investigator at Duke or the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS).These laboratories have proven to be quite profitable for collaborative research, increasing the breadth of the available research opportunities.
When a fellow is involved in research in an outside laboratory, a divisional faculty member will be involved in the project to ensure the appropriate level of mentoring and support is provided.
